Where to Buy Wagyu Beef Online in the UK
If you've ever searched for Wagyu beef online in the UK, you'll know the experience can be overwhelming. Dozens of websites, wildly varying prices, confusing grading systems, and no easy way to know whether you're getting the real thing or an overpriced imitation.
This guide cuts through all of that. We'll cover what to look for when buying Wagyu online, what separates genuine A5 from lesser grades, and why more and more UK customers are choosing Ways of Wagyu as their go-to online butcher.
What Is Wagyu Beef?
Wagyu refers to four Japanese cattle breeds renowned for one thing above all else — extraordinary intramuscular fat, known as marbling. This fat doesn't sit around the outside of the meat like on a standard supermarket steak. It runs through the muscle itself in fine, intricate webs, melting during cooking to produce a texture and depth of flavour that has no comparison in the beef world.
The grading system used to measure this is called the Beef Marbling Score, or BMS. It runs from 1 to 12. Standard supermarket beef rarely reaches BMS 3. Our Irish Wagyu starts at BMS 6. Our Australian Wagyu sits at BMS 9+. Our Japanese A5 Wagyu — the pinnacle of the grading system — scores BMS 10 to 12.
Once you understand the BMS scale, buying Wagyu online becomes much simpler. Any reputable supplier should display the BMS grade of every product they sell. If they don't, that's a red flag.
What to Look for When Buying Wagyu Online
Before you buy from any online butcher in the UK, ask these five questions:
1. Do they display BMS grades?
Transparency about grading is non-negotiable. Vague terms like "premium marbling" or "Wagyu-style" without a BMS score usually mean the product doesn't meet genuine Wagyu standards.
2. Where is the Wagyu sourced from?
Genuine A5 Wagyu comes from Japan. Australian and Irish Wagyu are legitimate alternatives at different price points, but they should be clearly labelled as such. Be wary of any site that uses the word "Wagyu" loosely without specifying origin.
3. How is it packaged and delivered?
Wagyu is a premium product and deserves premium handling. It should arrive vacuum-sealed, in temperature-controlled packaging, with tracked delivery. If a supplier is vague about their cold chain, your order could arrive compromised.
4. Are the prices honest?
Wagyu has historically been associated with enormous markups. In London especially, restaurants and specialist retailers add significant margins simply because they can. A genuinely fair-priced online butcher should be able to explain what you're paying for and why.
5. Do they have real customer reviews?
Not testimonials on their own website — actual verifiable reviews on Google or Trustpilot from real customers who have received and eaten the product.
Why Customers Choose Ways of Wagyu
Ways of Wagyu was built around a single frustration: the finest beef in the world was being sold in the UK at prices that made no sense, or wasn't available at all to everyday buyers who simply wanted to cook an extraordinary steak at home.
We source directly. We don't use wholesalers, middlemen or third-party distributors. Every cut — whether it's A5 Japanese Wagyu from Japan, BMS 9+ Australian Wagyu, Irish Wagyu, or our halal range — comes to us direct from trusted farms and is dispatched to you vacuum-sealed within 48 hours.
The result is simple: better beef, at prices that are actually honest.
